Radiofrequency (RF) Body Tightening
What is Body Tightening?
There are two different types of body tightening:
- Tightening of loose or sagging skin after weight loss.
- Reduction of fat and a reduction in the appearance of cellulite for a smoother, tighter silhouette.
Radiofrequency (RF) technology can perform both types of body tightening.
RF Body Skin Tightening
After weight loss it is common to have loose, excess skin.
Surgical options, such as the tummy-tuck, and increased exercise have long been the only options for tightening loose body skin.
More recently, however, radiofrequency technology has been proven effective at tightening body skin.
RF body skin tightening works the same way radiofrequency technology does on the face and neck, by causing a contraction of the collagen underneath the skin. The collagen tightens, causing the surface skin to tighten as well.
The benefit of using RF to tighten body skin is that it is painless, non-invasive, and requires no recovery time.
RF Cellulite Reduction
Cellulite is the lumpy, dimpled flesh that appears on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen. There are many ways to treat the appearance of cellulite; however, most do not live up to their claims.
RF energy can be used to reduce the appearance of cellulite by heating the fat layers underneath the skin. This causes tissue tightening and increased blood circulation which causes the fat to drain and reduces the appearance of cellulite.
The Mayo Clinic lists Radiofrequency systems as one of the most promising medical therapies in the treatment of cellulite.
Clinical Trials
A number of clinical trials have been done over the years proving the effectiveness of radiofrequency skin tightening for the body.
“Clinical and histopathological study of the Silk’n home-use device for body treatments,” European Journal of Dermatology
S. Boisnc, MC Branchet, O. Birnstiel, G. Beilin
This clinical study looked at the effectiveness specifically of the Silk’n home device for treatment of the body.
