It happens to the best of us. At first we notice it only when smiling and squinting and then bam, one morning you wake up and spot the beginnings of crow’s feet creeping in at the corners of your eyes. The webbed branches forming little wrinkles can be enough to put anyone in a bad mood. Crow’s feet are one of the first wrinkles to make an impression on our faces adorning the faces of almost all post 30. This is because the skin surrounding the eye is both delicate and thin making it the ideal target for those pesky wrinkles.
For the most part, Crow’s feet are caused by sun exposure though smoking can exacerbate their appearance. Adding on years of smiling and habitual squinting as well as sleep deprivation, crow’s feet are simply a fact of life.
So What Can We Do?
SPF! – For a start we can make sure to wear sunscreen on a daily basis – come cloud or sun, making sure to utilize the correct SPF of course. And whilst on the subject of sun, don’t forget to slip on some sunnies to prevent further squinting.
Sleep – They don’t call it beauty sleep for no reason! Catching up on some well-earned Z’s is every woman’s right! 7.5-9 hours a night should do the trick. When the body is sleep deprived, it releases a larger dose of cortisol, i.e. a stress hormone which breaks down collagen hence causing the skin to lose elasticity. This brings us onto our next point…
Stress – don’t do it! We know it can’t always be helped, but the more stress free you make your life, the better you will not only feel but also look for it! As mentioned in our ‘sleep’ point, stress quite literally breaks down collagen, leading to less elasticity and hence more wrinkles – eek!
Hydration – When the skin is not properly hydrated it is the first thing to show the signs of aging. Dark circles and crow’s feet are both intensified by a lack of water. Make sure you are drinking at least 2 liters a day and if possible up the ante to 3 liters to see beautiful results on the skin.
Eye Cream – Find an eye cream to give an extra boost of much needed hydration with mild ingredients such as cucumber, glycerin and squalene.
Treatments to Consider
If the above ‘natural’ methods of reducing and keeping crow’s feet at bay fail, there are a number of alternative treatment methods that you could try.
Cosmetic surgery
Botox and cosmetic procedures utilize invasive procedures involving freezing the muscles in the designated area. Though effective, these harsh treatment methods carry risks and can leave an unnatural appearance, we have all seen our fair share of botched celebrity treatments! So if choosing Botox or any form of invasive procedures, make sure to go to a respectable surgeon and be fully aware of the risks involved.
A Clinical Non-invasive Solution at Home
To treat existing crow’s feet, the Silk’n Facetite anti-wrinkle skin care device uses radio frequency technology to heighten the production of collagen, by stimulating the fibroblasts in the skin. This is a normal bodily function that is simply intensified; this treatment simply uses the body’s own natural process to treat itself. By having your own treatment device at home, you can simply top up when need be! The process provides immediate and long term results leaving the skin smoother and firmer. The Facetite will not only keep those troublesome crow’s feet and wrinkles at bay, but it also prevents them from coming back!
